THE AXIS EXPERIENCE
A Musical Homage to: Jimi Hendrix

JIMI HENDRIX London EXPERIENCE
In the mid 1960's Jimi Hendrix toured as a side man with the likes of Little Richard, the Isleys and Wilson Pickett. Then the Animal's Chas Chandler brought Jimi Hendrix to London to form the Experience. A power trio rock group was formed like none before or since. In the early days Jimi would mix songs from his blues and R&B heroes into his sets, like BB King and Muddy Waters. He also played witha passion and acrobatics never before seen: Behind his back, head and Between his legs and even with his teeth.

JIMI HENDRIX - MONTEREY
Jimi's most famous show … Monterey Pop! It is the concert that put Jimi Hendrix on the map. For the firstime, world renown rock, pop and jazz offciandos caught Jimi's act on a grand stage. He made sure they would never forget with an amazing performance puncutated by his famous BURNING OF THE GUITAR.

JIMI HENDRIX - WOODSTOCK
The most famous concert of all time and Jimi Hendrix was the headliner. Not only did it mark a time of peace and love for the end of the 60's but for Jimi Hendrix it marked the end of the Experience as he played with dual percussions and got away from his power trio. He called it "Gypsy Suns and Rainbows or a Band of Gypsys" To end the show Hendrix performed a beautiful yet controversial instrumental version of the STAR SPANGLED BANNER.
JIMI HENDRIX - BAND OF GYPSYS
Another controversial and yet groud breaking time for Jimi Hendrix. On the eve of 1970, Jimi would unveil the BAND of GYPSYS, Some saw it as the first all black rockband. It was taken as a social statement but Jimi meant it as a musical one. With Buddy Miles and Billy Cox, Hendrix became more groove and funk oriented yet kept his classic rock edge. Gone was the Experience and after the first show on the last day of 1969, gone were the guitar tricks. Now Jimi let the music talk in 1970 , playing with grace and skill but without fanfare.

JIMI HENDRIX - Isle of Wight
Jimi's last major concert was the Isle of Wight. This return to England, would sadly mark Hendrix's passing just a few short weeks after this performance. As so, The Isle of Wight concert features many songs rarely played live by Jimi since some were yet to be published. Jimi's band was now the racially integrated Band of Gypsys and Rainbows that Billy Cox (from the Gypsys) and Mitch Micthell (from the Experience) would sometimes call themselves. However fans often referred to this line-up as the CRY OF LOVE Band wihich Jimi sometimes called his final tour.
